Taylor got a red rock climbing harness at REI this weekend. He was so proud of it he wore it out of the store and to the grocery store.
We hauled all our gear down to the easiest climbs at Reimer's ranch. We even hauled a jogging stroller so we would have a safe place for Wyatt to hang out while Tim and I were on-rope. The kids really enjoyed the 'little' (45 min) hike in and liked playing in the chalk piles we found.
And about ten minutes later, Taylor leaned backward on the rock he was sitting on as he watched Tim set up the first climb. Taylor rolled backward down a pile of rocks and ended up looking like this:
It bled and bled and bled and bled and bled some more. We loaded everything and everyone out (took 2 trips and over an hour) and went to Austin to get it looked at. Two stitches later, it looks like this:
I didn't take any pictures of the gray hairs Tim and I got this weekend. Whew. We all made it home safe and sound. Taylor never got a chance to use his cool new harness this weekend... but we're going to try again soon.
**funny story** Tim stayed in the car with sleeping Wyatt, while I took Taylor into the ER. It took about an hour and when we got out to the car Tim asked how Taylor was. Taylor's answer " I'm fine dad, I got a mint!!". Clearly, he's not permanently traumatized by the fall or the stitches :)
Here's to a happy and healthy and E.R. free new year!!!
